Woman attacked in south Dublin estate was victim of sexual assault

The woman was attacked yesterday evening.

GARDAÍ HAVE APPEALED for witnesses after a woman was a victim of a sexual assault yesterday evening in a south Dublin estate.

The woman was attacked yesterday evening at about 5.45pm in the Bayview Estate in Killiney.

Gardaí said that a lone man approached the woman and attacked her.

The woman managed to fight back against the man and struck him a number of times. She then contacted gardaí where she reported the crime. She suffered minor injuries.

Gardai in Shankill have set up an incident room to investigate this incident.

They have confirmed that a number of statements have been taken and numerous lines of inquiry are being investigated together with CCTV and house to house inquiries.

Commenting on the attack, local councillor Cormac Devlin said he had asked gardaí to step up patrols in the area as a result.

“This is the second serious incident in the Killiney area this year,” said Devlin.

“In light of these incidents, I have asked council management to review lighting in the Killiney and Shankill area to ensure it is fit for purpose.

I have also asked Garda management to step up patrols, particularly mountain bike patrols around Killiney Hill and the adjacent DART stations.

Gardaí are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Shankill Station on 01-6665900 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800666111.
